WAN optimization success to ring in the new year

Although the IT industry may not be able to pinpoint all the developments that will happen in 2012, many companies found success with wide area networks in 2011, according to a recent list compiled by TechTarget's Tessa Parmenter.
According to the news provider,
WAN optimization helped businesses successfully transition from internet-protocol version 4 to IPv6.
"World IPv6 Day also raised awareness around exhausted IPv4 addresses and gave enterprises and participating companies the chance to test IPv6 internal network deployments," wrote Parmenter.
The reporter also indicated that some businesses moved away from asynchronous transfer mode WAN connectivity to Metro Ethernet applications because of the increased flexibility.
Parmenter asserted that the most significant
WAN optimization story of 2011 involved the discussion of whether to migrate from multi-protocol label switching in favor of broadband WAN services.
A study conducted by research firm International Data Corporation revealed that enterprises worldwide are using WAN networking to address several types of traffic. The IDC research indicated that the global ethernet revenue in the United States is projected to grow from $3.4 billion in 2010 to more than $8 billion by 2015 as a result of this development and other trends.
