IT security remains a concern for companies with many executives indicating their organizations cannot recover from a massive breach, according to a new study conducted by Imago Techmedia for the IP EXPO.

Of those surveyed, 18 percent said their businesses may not be able to survive a wide-scale security breach. Also, 70 percent indicated that security could be implemented more successfully with a more collaborative approach across all information/communication departments.

"Respondents to our survey overwhelmingly agreed that IT security should not be viewed as an isolated activity, but would best be treated as an integrated part of businesses' entire technology reviews and processes," said Imago Techmedia social business and content director Mike England.

More than 25 percent of survey participants said smartphones and laptops pose the greatest security risk, according to the study.

A recent Thomson Reuters report also backs up the notion that new mobile devices continue to be on the minds of IT officials. Of those surveyed, 85 percent of corporations said unencrypted communications are their top security fear, while 75 percent revealed information stored on tablets, smartphones, laptops and other mobile devices is a concern.
