Riverbed announces new RiOS 6.1, provides application acceleration
Thursday, June 10, 2010
On Tuesday, Riverbed Technology, a global IT company that focuses on software performance, announced the release of its newest optimization system, RiOS 6.1. The new system will look to increase speeds for
WAN optimization and hopefully make
cloud decisions easier for IT executives.
By employing the new OS, IT department applications and
cloud services can have enhanced acceleration, which might make the shift into the cloud more enticing. RiOS 6.1 provides faster speeds and optimization for such widely used programs as Lotus Notes 8.5 and Microsoft's Exchange 2010 and SharePoint, as well as Microsoft Online for SharePoint and Exchange.
"With this release, Riverbed is providing its customers with the necessary tools to support critical IT initiatives such as private and public
cloud computing, IT centralization and disaster recovery," said Cindy Borovick, vice president at global market intelligence firm IDC. "As CIOs turn to centralized IT models to reduce costs, WAN optimization is an increasingly critical tool required to maintain performance and ensure that distant employees remain productive."
In addition to
application acceleration, RiOS 6.1 will offer upgraded optimizations for disaster recovery performance, doing so by providing intelligent storage networking protocol enhancements that ensure better performance with greater scale and easier management.
Application acceleration is becoming an important tool for IT companies, especially involving the cloud. Recently,
Virtela, a global managed network and security services company, announced the industry's first
cloud-based application acceleration program.
