Since the number of mobile devices used among business employees today is on the rise, technology CIOs are dealing with a new breed of worker.

According to a recent InformationWeek report, many businesses are embracing the bring-your-own-device model. To successfully handle the influx of smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices, CIOs are encouraged to follow certain steps to ensure a successful management policy.

The news provider's Michael Belak said data security is a key consideration. Organizations must "ensure that corporate data is kept separate from personal data. Most mobile device management software provides a protected sandbox for corporate data."

CIOs should also state which devices will be allowed in the office and which will not. According to Belak, the next step is to establish a technology infrastructure that supports both corporate and mobile device data.

Earlier this month, TMCnet reported that a whitepaper released by Forrester Research said companies should make sure that all mobile devices with access to corporate data are managed by the businesses themselves. This allows organizations to protect corporate from personal data.
