Although fans of the popular iPhone had to wait more than the usual year between upgrades for the
smartphone, many have already lined up to get their hands on the 4S.
Apple reported that its pre-order sales reached 1 million, which is more than the 600,000 for the previous model. Customers have been lining up to purchase the 4S at Apple, Target, Wal-Mart and Best Buy stores across the country.
Overall,
smartphones have become some of the most popular electronic devices on the market. According to research firm Gartner, worldwide
mobile device sales during the second quarter of 2011 reached approximately 429 million units, with smartphone sales accounting for nearly 108 million.
With so many smartphones and other
mobile devices in the hands of consumers and employees,
security has emerged as an important aspect of company protection.
A Network World report last month revealed that a Forrester Research study regarding
mobile device management encourages companies to gauge which employees will be bringing
tablets and smartphones into the workplace to identify employee preferences and decide which devices can be used for specific job functions.
