IT managers look to broadband internet to curb higher WAN expenses

TechTarget feature writer Lisa Sampson recently reported that many IT managers are replacing their multiprotocol label switching and wide area network links with broadband internet connection.
By doing so, the news provider suggested that these officials will have to deal with less control over their
WAN if they indeed replace their private links.
"Enterprises are targeting branch offices for internet-based WAN connectivity, while regional and enterprise headquarters will continue relying on expensive T1s and
MPLS circuits," wrote Sampson.
Another key driver for the move to an internet connection is the cost savings associated with the technology. CEO of consulting firm CIMI Corporation Tom Nolle told TechTarget this is in fact the No. 1 reason behind the switch. He also noted that consumer broadband services have become less expensive in recent years, which has led to the move to cost effective practices.
While some organizations may be seeking more cost effective options, TechTarget reporter Tessa Parmenter recently highlighted the success some companies experienced regarding their
WAN optimization. According to the news provider, one business IT manager used WAN to boost its level of performance during the company's server consolidation.
