Irish Times reports that more companies in Ireland will outsource technology

Many companies in the U.S. have begun to turn to third-party firms to help with daily IT responsibilities and that sentiment seems to be carrying overseas as well. A recent study found that nearly one-third of CIOs in Ireland plan to increase their department spending on outsourcing during the next 12 months, the Irish Times reports.
The report, conducted by a local outsourcing firm in Ireland, found that 27 percent of CIOs planned to increase spending on third-party IT involvement. Of this percent planning to outsource, 76 percent stated that their budget during 2009 was frozen - a great sign that companies worldwide are starting to emerge from the confines of the recession. Nearly 40 percent of responding CIOs plan to concentrate on controlling costs.
By outsourcing technology responsibilities, IT executives are able to rely on outside experts to provide and maintain a
managed network or
managed VPN. Doing this allows IT workers to then focus on other areas that might fall by the wayside when the majority of their attention is usually on network maintenance.
Ireland's movement toward outsourcing reflects a positive trend among worldwide IT departments looking to efficiently spend their budgets. A recent report from IDC predicts a 3.8 percent spending increase for worldwide technology departments in 2010, bringing the total amount to $1.5 trillion.
