According to a recent TechTarget report, users expect the best wide area network connection wherever they are, but not every application receives optimal performance. To combat this issue, there are several tips to achieve the best WAN application connection.

For starters, IT staff should look for patterns from consumer complaints to help understand recurring issues. Also, service providers should consider several options for addressing performance issues, the report stated.

Application delivery optimization solutions must be evaluated with security, networking, desktop and data center planning in mind. According to TechTarget, ADO decisions must be made that will not hinder other areas of planning.

"An excellent way to make sure that not just plans and architectures are accounted for but also ongoing operations is to make the team selecting and implementing the ADO solution cross-functional," said Principal Nemertes research analyst and TechTarget contributor John Burke.

Furthermore, organizations should also measure throughputs, application performance and latency, Burke stated.

As many organizations look to establish greener operations, WAN optimization helps eliminate many consolidation issues to help the process, according to a recent Computer Technology Review report.
