With the transition to internet-protocol version 6 in full swing, Network World recently published a report with several tips users may take to ensure migration success.
According to the news provider, organizations should identify which devices and software programs need to be upgraded for IPv6. Once this is decided, the next step involves creating an upgrade plan that cannot be separated from bandwidth and capacity planning.
Companies should also allocate funds for IPv6 training and network upgrades in their 2012 IT budgets.
"Consider taking the appliance approach to IPv6, which involves adding a translation device in front of your Web infrastructure as a fast way to make your IPv4 content available to IPv6-only users," wrote Network World's Carolyn Marsan.
Other tips include experimenting with IPv6 by testing how it works with certain hardware and software, as well as participating in the 2012 event next February, the report stated.
The move to IPv6 is needed for several reasons. According to a Nuestar report, emerging technologies, including
cloud computing, smartphones and other internet-connected devices are changing the way people access information.
