Android devices expected to fall behind the tablet pack

The tablet industry continues to expand as more Android-powered devices enter the fold to compete with the iPad.

A recent eWeek report by Don Reisinger suggested that despite manufacturers' efforts to dethrone the iPad, the Android operating system will ultimately lose the battle for the burgeoning tablet market. One of the key issues with the OS is its security vulnerabilities, considering the platform is more open.

"Android is a fine operating system, but it’s not iOS," wrote Reisinger. "Consumers are making that abundantly clear with each new iPad they buy. Apple’s iOS is simple to use, it doesn’t suffer from security issues, and its feature set is top-notch."

With Windows 8 tablets on the horizon, the market will become even more competitive. According to the news provider, companies are already "lining up" to get their hands on the new devices.

Since many employees are adopting tablets and accessing company networks, businesses are encouraged to adopt mobile device management policies to manage this development. CIO's Shane O'Neill recently suggested that, although tablets can be useful for workers, unexpected risks can occur if organizations are not prepared to properly support the technology.
