Teradata acquires cloud software developer Aprimo

Enterprise data storage provider Teradata recently announced it has agreed to acquire
cloud software developer Aprimo for approximately $525 million.
With the acquisition, Teradata expects to strengthen its analytics offering by incorporating Aprimo's cloud-based integrated marketing solutions.
"Combining these visionary companies positions Teradata as a leader in integrated marketing management, marketing resource management and multi-channel campaign management, providing customers an end-to-end solution available in SaaS and on-premise environments,” said Teradata CEO Mike Koehler.
The deal is expected to close in the first quarter and includes the assumption of about $25 million of Aprimo cash.
Several industry observers have noted that Teradata's acquisition gives it a stronger standing in the data storage market, which has seen a number of companies, including Teradata's peers 3Par and InSite, get snatched up by larger businesses this year.
One of the major applications to emerge from the ever-growing
cloud computing market is storage, which provides businesses with greater accessibility and instant scalability to their data at reduced costs. According to a recent study by 451 Group, storage accounts for approximately 40 percent of cloud-based IaaS revenues, and it will quadruple in the next three years.
