Telecoms can benefit by using the services they sell

Telecommunication companies struggle with the same IT service difficulties as companies in nearly every other industry. Allocating enough storage space, operating with optimal efficiency while reducing costs and carbon footprints - these are problems limited to no one industry, and many companies are turning to virtualization and cloud computing as solutions.

One key difference, however, is that telecoms are the ones offering the solutions.

As Connected Planet recently pointed out, it’s ironic that in times when North American telecoms are struggling to operate more efficiently, they are selling to businesses cloud solutions that they themselves have not even deployed internally.

Several telecommunication companies in North America have announced different cloud models for their enterprise customers. By implementing the services they offer internally, not only can a company ease the process of sharing data, software and other services over a wide range of devices, they can also demonstrate to potential customers how their services help a company run efficiently.

According to recent figures reported by Harris Interactive, almost two-thirds of IT executives in the U.S. use cloud computing in some capacity. Eighty-nine percent of respondents indicated they think private clouds are the next logical step for organizations already implementing virtualization.
