Startup company Cirtas Systems recently unveiled an appliance that automates the process of integrating internal storage systems with storage services in the cloud.

The Bluejet Storage Controller is designed to help medium and large businesses easily migrate secondary storage to third-party cloud computing providers.

Public cloud storage is an attractive option for many businesses. However, concerns over security, functionality and performance have deterred adoption. With the controller, Cirtas aims address some of these concerns by making cloud storage work like on-site storage.

The Bluejet Storage Controller acts as a local cache that combines DRAM, solid-state drives and 7,200 RPM hard disk drives. The appliance also offers up to 3.5-terabytes of internal capacity.

The controllers are available now, with prices starting at $69,995. Cirtas is also inviting customers to try the appliance for free for 60 days.

Cirtas also recently announced it has completed a Series A funding round with several IT organizations totaling $10 million. The company stated that it will apply its funding capital to infrastructure investments that support development and adoption of its Bluejet technology.
