Small business cloud computing rates expected to take off

ITBusiness's Christine Wong recently reported that the use of cloud computing among small businesses is expected to expand beginning next year.

IT consultant Stuart Crawford told the news provider that cloud computing will be a viable option for small businesses next year because many of their PC refresh cycles will take place in 2012.

"I think that’s the next (cloud) frontier, those traditional on-premise solutions for smaller mid-market companies, the 25- to 100-employee type of companies," Crawford told ITBusiness.

According to Crawford, the adoption of cloud computing services by larger companies will make small business migration to the technology easier. Also, smaller companies need to keep pace with their competition and the use of cloud computing will force these organizations to follow suit.

Worldwide, companies are expected to adopt the cloud on a greater scale. A recent Global Industry Analysts study projected cloud computing services spending to reach $127 billion by 2017. The research firm indicated that businesses will use the technology to support enterprise mobility and address compliance and continuity needs.
