For organizations using cloud computing to improve their operations, there are several tips that can help maximize efficiency.

According to a recent GreenBiz.com report, companies must establish an integrated strategy so that technology investments are in line with business efficiency. Organizations should also investigate the benefits the cloud can provide and how much the services will cost to implement.

"Cloud computing can scale up or scale down computing resources according to demand, so if your business has periodic spikes in activity, it's wiser to turn to the cloud for capacity, rather than maintaining proprietary infrastructure inactive for long periods of time," said GreenBiz.com's David Metcalfe.

Companies looking to improve their cloud computing adoption process should make sure their is a consistent set of tools across the platforms. Businesses are also encouraged to maintain their most critical business applications, while leaving their less important programs to service providers, added Metcalfe.

Global cloud computing spending is projected to reach $89 billion in 2011 and, according to research firm Gartner, this amount is expected to nearly double to $177 billion by 2015.
