Report sheds light on cloud computing benefits among SMBs

A recent Consumer Electronics report highlighted the immense benefits of cloud computing among small- and medium-sized businesses.

The news provider noted that disruptions can occur and place SMBs in a precarious position if they cannot recover quickly. The cloud makes it easier for these companies to have disaster recovery plans in place to ensure their data is protected and can be retrieved in the event of an incident.

The Consumer Electronics report also cited research firm International Data Corporation SMB vice president Raymond Boggs, who said cloud computing services are also ideal because of their online backup capabilities.

"Online storage providers offer higher levels of protection than that found in a typical small or even midsized firm," Boggs told the news provider.

According to Boggs, the real challenge for SMBs is to relinquish some of their control over their IT department and allow cloud vendors to maintain this information.

Since the benefits of cloud computing are not confined to one IT aspect, more companies are expected to purchase its services in the future. A recent Global Industry Analysts study revealed that global cloud spending is projected to reach approximately $127 billion by 2017.
