Paul McCartney jumps on cloud bandwagon

It’s one thing when IT executives across the globe get excited about new technology. But it’s quite another when international music legends join the conversation.

Hewlett-Packard recently announced that it has entered into an agreement with Paul McCartney and holding company McCartney Productions to digitize and deliver the musician’s library through a private cloud.

HP called McCartney’s collection “one of the most comprehensive libraries of any artist.” In addition to his music, HP will work with McCartney Productions to digitize the former Beatle’s artwork, films and videos, as well as design and build a state-of-the-art content management system. The library will then be delivered through a private cloud and portions will be made available to fans.

“I’ve always been interested in creative ideas and new ways of reaching people, so this is a really exciting initiative for me,” McCartney said. “I hope it will allow people who might be interested to access parts of our archives they might otherwise not be able to.”

The agreement is the first time HP has collaborated with a musician in this way. In addition to creating a new way for fans and artists to interact, the digitization will also help preserve McCartney’s library for future generations, HP stated.
