Oracle expands cloud storage service

Technology giant Oracle recently announced it has combined two of its management software programs into one to enhance private
cloud storage offerings for its clients.
The new package, dubbed Oracle Cloud File System, is comprised of the company's Automatic Storage Management Cluster File System and Automatic Storage Management Dynamic Volume Manager.
According to Oracle, the Cloud File System is designed to help organizations deploy their storage, applications and databases in private and hybrid cloud environments by automating data management capabilities and simplifying storage pooling for files, middleware and applications.
Oracle senior vice president of product and development Angelo Pruscino noted that the cloud can help organizations deal with the mounting challenges of data storage and hardware, which can be expensive and difficult to manage.
"Oracle Cloud File System delivers all the components and characteristics necessary for customers to deploy a storage cloud," said Pruscino.
Oracle announced in January it would soon roll out a "game-changing" storage solution for its customers. Since that announcement, the company has also released a 5-terabyte storage tape drive from its StorageTek division.
