New technologies present problems for IT governance

As new mobile technologies and cloud computing become more mainstream, CIO and IT professionals are revamping their IT governance strategies to ensure they are ready to implement the new platforms.

According to a recent Tech Target article, CIOs have to take different governance approaches with requests for up-to-the-minute technologies.

With mobile devices such as iPads and BlackBerrys, CIOs must make sure the devices meet security standards. This may involve the IT department testing the device to come up with a suitable governance strategy.

In regards to cloud computing, one solution for IT executives is to ensure IT is involved in any decision that involves corporate data potentially ending up in a public cloud. This could mean requests for corporate data must first go through the CIO.

According to Tech Target, IT executives agree the key to maintaining an IT governance strategy with the adoption of new technologies is to stay ahead of the curve.

Worldwide cloud adoption is growing at a remarkable rate. According to a recent report by Renub Research, the global cloud market will reach $25 billion by the end of 2013. As mobile devices become increasingly a part of enterprise cloud use, it is important for CIOs to ensure their governance strategies are effective.
