New study reveals world data continues to expand

While companies worldwide have experienced the benefits offered by virtualization and cloud computing technologies, so-called Big Data, which allows organizations to analyze large sets of data, is expected to contribute to the consumption of global data.

According to a recent study conducted by the storage and cloud solution provider EMC, the amount of global data produced is doubling every two years and is expected to reach 1.8 zettabytes by the end of 2011, due to the influx of new technology and IT budgets, the Philippine Daily Inquirer reports.

With the massive amounts of data expected to be managed this year and in the future, properly trained IT staff are going to be needed, Ronnie Latinazo, country manager of EMC Philippines, told the news provider.

"IT staffing will be a major problem in the future," Latinazo told the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

Although Big Data is expected to fuel the consumption of information moving forward, nearly 97 percent of data scientists surveyed at the Joint Statistical Meeting - the largest event of its kind in North America - indicated that the technology needs improvement, according to a recent study conducted by Revolution Analytics.
