Although many companies have not fully implemented a
cloud computing infrastructure, a majority of organizations are currently using the technology.
According to a recent study of more than 220 IT professionals by custom market research firm Chadwick Martin Bailey, 80 percent said they currently use some applications located in the cloud.
"A full, company-wide commitment to cloud computing is still rare, however: most cloud deployments are happening on an ad hoc basis within company divisions," said Chadwick Martin Bailey. "Fewer than 10 percent of companies have adopted a comprehensive company-wide plan for cloud adoption."
Most companies use a mixture of
cloud services. According to the study, the evolving IT infrastructure has led to organizations adopting hybrid, external and private cloud solutions to meet this demand.
A recent study of more than 800 respondents from 15 countries conducted by KPMG International also points to the increased use of cloud computing services. Of those surveyed, 76 percent of both cloud users and service providers indicated that the current economy is a key factor for adopting the technology.
