New report highlights need for mobile management policy

With the proliferation of mobile devices in the workplace, organizations have been encouraged to implement a mobile device management strategy to monitor the influx of smartphones and tablets using their network, according to a recent TechTarget report.

"Over the last year [bring your own device policies have] really skyrocketed," Jared Griffith, chief technology officer of Cinergy Wi-Fi told the news provider. "Requests are coming in from users to bring devices that corporations can’t afford [to issue]."

By implementing a bring-your-own device policy, companies can lower their mobility costs and boost employee productivity and flexibility, according to TechTarget's Shamus McGillicuddy. The policies can be enabled through the use of wireless LAN engineering, which protects mission-critical applications that will be stored on the network, Griffith told the news provider.

A recent whitepaper released by Forrester Research also encourages organizations to adopt a bring-your-own device policy. According to its research, companies should make sure that all mobile devices with access to their computers are managed by the organizations themselves, as well as using a public cloud computing platform to host data, TMC reported.
