More companies expected to benefit from hybrid cloud computing solutions

Silicon Republic's John Kennedy recently reported that hybrid cloud computing models are expected to gain greater prominence in 2012.

The news provider interviewed IT solutions vendor Niall Gilmore regarding the use of the technology moving forward. He noted that, in the past, companies would adopt a private cloud model to ensure greater security, while businesses seeking greater flexibility adopted a public cloud.

In 2011, businesses adopted a single cloud model at a fast pace, but this will change. Beginning next year, Gilmore suggested more organizations will connect their private clouds to public offerings to achieve both agility and greater protection, Kennedy reported.

"The widespread adoption of the hybrid cloud will be a game-changing moment, offering a new level of capability to companies in different sectors," Gilmore told Silicon Republic.

The rapid adoption of cloud computing solutions is expected to drive the technology's profits in the near future. According to a study conducted by independent research firm Ovum, global cloud revenue is projected to increase from only $18 billion this year to almost $70 billion by 2016.
