A recent study released by CSC revealed companies worldwide are adopting cloud computing for its myriad benefits, but its ability to facilitate workforce mobility be it's strongest advantage.

The research included responses from 3,645 IT professionals and found that business agility and costs savings were identified as the most valuable features of cloud computing by 21 percent and 17 percent of those surveyed, respectively.

However, of those surveyed, 33 percent cited the technology's ability to connect through an abundance of devices, which can include smartphones and tablets. In the United States, this development is even more pronounced, as 46 percent of U.S. businesses said the cloud's mobility access is key for adoption.

"The survey indicates that nearly all organizations boost improvements in IT performance following cloud adoption, with 93 percent of all organizations reporting at least one area of IT improvement," said the study.

As more companies realize the potential of cloud computing services, spending for the technology is expected to take off. According to a study conducted by Global Industry Analysts, global cloud budgets will approach nearly $130 billion by 2017 as organizations address mobility and business continuity needs.
