January 28th is Data Privacy Day
Tuesday, January 31, 2012
On January 28th,
managed service providers from around the globe dedicated an entire day to raise awareness of the security issues that surround
cloud services. The panel discussions that took place debated everything from
mobile device management to
cloud based VPN networks.
The National Cyber Security Alliance, for example, held a conference at George Washington University that was able to be viewed online via Facebook Live. Cyber security is a very broad definition, but current trends show that the cloud computing industry is the most targeted by cyber criminals. Discussions are focused on cloud security and how businesses can incorporate appropriate measures into their operational infrastructure.
Security breaches over the past few years have only added a sense of urgency to International Data Privacy Day.
"New risks, illustrated by the Carrier IQ mobile device privacy controversy, Zappos and Amazon's 24 million records breached, Sony's 100 million records breached and recent hacktivist attacks, are emerging faster than most policies and IT departments can keep up," said Kevin Kalinich, global practice leader of cyber insurance for Aon Risk Solutions. "Organizations that think their network could never be a penetrable target need to think again."
