According to India's National Association of Software and Service Companies, small- and medium-sized businesses in India should thoroughly investigate the possibilities afforded by cloud computing technology, the Press Trust of India reported.

NASSCOM president Som Mittal, speaking at a recent industry event, said that such technology is the way forward for India's tech sector, according to PTI.

"There are opportunities, especially for small- and medium-size companies, to develop products in sectors like cloud computing, mobile applications and Software-as-a-Service. The future is bright and we need to make full use of it," he stated.

Mittal, according to the news source, also praised the country's software services industry as "a global leader," and urged the development of new product companies - at least 500 in the next half-decade - to boost its central role further.

Additionally, PTI reported that MindTree CEO Krishnakumar Natarajan said IT outsourcing would be a $1.7 trillion industry by 2019.

Globally, SaaS and the cloud are indisputably the technologies of the moment for businesses of all sizes, and uptake rates have risen across the board.
