Expert says cloud computing vital for businesses

Wednesday, January 11, 2012

Cloud computing has shifted from a technology of unknown possibilities to solutions that appear poised to benefit most industries and organizations in meaningful ways.

A recent Business 2 Community report by Jessy Troy highlighted the immense potential associated with cloud computing.

According to the news provider, the technology is ideal for companies because of its cost effectiveness, scalability, simplified update requirements and mobile support.

"Workers are no longer shackled to a single workstation," wrote Troy. "Cloud platforms can be accessed from anywhere you can tap into the Internet, which opens up possibilities for access through mobile devices, a home office, or a hotel while you’re on a business trip."

The writer added that cloud computing offers "lightening" response times, decreased down-time and accessible IT professionals.

On the heels of a successful 2011 in which more organizations adopted cloud computing, the technology is expected to continue its innovation in 2012. A recent InformationWeek report by Judith Hurwitz suggested that more companies with limited IT spending and strict timetables will migrate to the cloud for its benefits. Also, many more businesses will adopt a hybrid model to take advantage of both private and public models.
