The use of
cloud computing,
security solutions and proliferation of
mobile devices such as
tablets continue to shape the IT industry. In 2012, these areas are expected to have an even greater impact, according to a recent report by Computerworld's Scot Finnie.
By the end of next year, cloud computing solutions will offer more effective best practices regarding the technology. The reporter anticipates that, despite the popularity of tablets, they will not replace PCs, but rather offer an extension of the computer experience.
"The advent of lightweight but powerful 15-inch ultrabooks will be the breakthrough that keeps PCs relevant in a world where people have been seduced by the convenience of tablets," wrote Finnie.
Security vulnerabilities will also be crucial for enterprises next year. Businesses unable to deal with tighter budgets and more sophisticated criminals will find themselves in a precarious position, according to Finnie.
A recent study conducted by IT staffing firm Modis revealed the technology sectors with the most potential as identified by survey participants indicated that the cloud, security and mobile computing are the top areas for future growth.
