Expert offers several tips for private cloud adoption

As more companies jump aboard the cloud computing bandwagon, building a private cloud, while beneficial, is often a misunderstood process. Despite this fact, one IT expert offers several tips to developing a successful model, according to a recent InfoWorld report.

Rather than simply develop a private cloud because others are doing so, companies should define a value and return on investment for performing such a move. Also, organizations should focus on the interfaces of the cloud, such as service and provisions, the report stated.

"Even if you're only doing virtualized storage, you need to start with SOA patterns as a way to find the right conceptual and physical architecture," said InfoWorld's David Linthicum. "It takes less time than you might think."

Companies should also consider data protection issues while constructing a private cloud and integrate security into a majority of the architectural levels. Additionally, virtualized servers, although part of a private cloud, are not the solution itself, said Linthicum.

More companies worldwide are adopting the private cloud model. According to a recent study by Evolven Software and Forrester Research, 62 percent said their companies have at least one private cloud project in place for 2011.
