Enterprises looking to add private cloud in small doses

Monday, August 16, 2010

While adopting cloud computing has become a major trend in 2010 for companies looking for cost-effective IT solutions, not all businesses have fully embraced the new technology. The technological capabilities that the cloud offers small- and medium-sized businesses are great; however, larger businesses and enterprises are simply looking to add parts of the private cloud into their daily operations, reports Tech Target.

Systems integrators who have worked with such enterprises have noticed a pattern of cloud implementation at these places. SaaS applications, such as SalesForce.com, or other programs that service people-driven parts of these companies - and aren't simply data-driven - have become popular. Integrators state that these programs are almost always virtualized at these companies now, offering a "cloud-style" environment for them.

Using this type of implementation as an example, these integrators stated that enterprises aren't overhauling their IT infrastructure, like SMBs have been doing, but rather they are adding cloud-like elements to improve certain business areas. These private cloud offerings are better suited for enterprises, as many still have great fears over public clouds and their security.

A recent report from the Pew Research Center found that cloud computing won't be a dominant trend until next decade, despite the currently increasing movement toward the new technology. With enterprise-level businesses still unsure of the cloud as a whole, Pew's research looks to be accurate. ADNFCR-3353-ID-19925912-ADNFCR
