Dell to acquire another storage company

Dell recently said it intends to acquire
cloud-based medical archiving provider InSite One, in a move that would strengthen its position in the healthcare IT market.
The Wallingford, Connecticut-based InSite One supports nearly 800 clinical sites and manages approximately 55 million clinical studies and 3.6 billion medical images.
The terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
Dell said the combination of InSite One's cloud-based data storage and disaster recovery solutions and Dell's Unified Clinical Archive would allow healthcare organizations to manage their data more efficiently and provide greater access to medical documents for professionals.
The computer giant added that it will eventually provide storage-as-a-service to customers in other industries as well.
"As the first company to bring cloud technology to the medical archive space, InSite One will help Dell’s healthcare customers take advantage of the economics and scalability of the cloud for medical archiving and retention,” said vice president of Dell healthcare and life sciences services Berk Smith.
This marks Dell's second announcement of intent to acquire a storage provider this month. On December 13, it announced plans to expand its data center offerings by acquiring storage provider Compellent Technologies.
