Cloud to hit mainstream in Asia-Pacific by 2015
Wednesday, November 16, 2011
For all the hype surrounding the cloud, the technology still has significant room to grow. According to a recent ZDNet report, the coming years will see the cloud move into the mainstream, especially in the Asia-Pacific region, as companies become more aware and comfortable with the technology.
To date,
security and reliability still act as powerful barriers to the cloud's growth in the Asia-Pacific region. Companies, either not trusting of the technology or just unsure, have been hesitant to migrate to
cloud services.
But this will soon change. Citing a new study from research firm IDC, ZDNet noted that the cloud will become a mainstream technology by 2015 in the region. Companies are evidently growing more comfortable with the cloud as concerns are addressed by
managed services providers and cloud vendors.
"Cloud users [will have] made significant progress in the [next] four years and integrated cloud systems well with the rest of the class," said IDC associate vice president Simon Piff, according to the news provider. "Cloud can then be considered a full-fledged member of the IT class."
This trend is not limited to the Asia-Pacific, however. According to Forrester Research, the global cloud market is expected to generate revenue exceeding $240 billion by 2020, as companies worldwide shift to the cloud.
