Cloud provides enterprises with competitive advantages

The cloud is being praised for giving some enterprises a competitive advantage. For one healthcare provider, switching to a software-as-a-service model allowed them to make their operations more flexible, adaptable and to add an extra level of security to their data. The company told Business 2 Community that all of this has made them better situated to compete in the current high-stakes economic market.

Another benefit of cloud computing that can give companies a competitive edge is that the cloud can serve a remote workforce. If employees can work from anywhere, then it opens the door to new business models that are more attractive to employees and companies alike.

InfoWorld explained that even if employees aren't on the company network, then connectivity, security, capacity management and resiliency become the responsibility of the managed service provider rather than the company's over-worked IT department. Additionally, public cloud platforms have usually done a better job of delivering IT services over the internet than enterprises have been able to do. This means that the public cloud allows workers to do their jobs better and faster compared to the company network. Service providers can also provide managed security services to protect enterprise data - wherever it is and wherever it goes.
