In the world of cloud computing, critics of the technology have pointed to its security concerns, while advocates have been enamored with its cost savings. According to a recent TMC.net.com report, early adopters of the cloud see it as the next big computing trend, while IT managers concerned about risk believe it is a fad.

In an interview with the news provider, Andy Land, vice president of marketing at UnboundID, said the cloud has moved from a fad to a mature enterprise IT channel, due to its immense advantages.

"There are too many benefits to the cloud not to use it," Land told TMC.net.com. "And, there are many things that can be put in the cloud effectively. But it’s important to stay out of the hype and stay in reality. What kills trends like this is overhype and not living up to expectations."

As the United States moves to shut down 40 percent of its data centers to become more cost effective, federal CIO Vivek Kundra recently told the New York Times the government could save an additional $5 billion annually by utilizing cloud computing.
