Cloud computing continues to gain traction on a global scale as experts suggest that the technology can be beneficial for companies of all sizes due to its broad-range of benefits.

According to a recent Hostway report, vice chairman of the nonprofit EuroCloud Phil Wainewright, said hosted cloud services can help prevent the issues that arise from having to manage their own servers and software.

"Because the application is already up and running, the provider takes care of making sure that it keeps running and actually keeps upgrading it with extra functionality over time," Wainewright told Hostway.

Also, companies stand to benefit from cloud computing because they can save money by having their IT operations run through the cloud services provider.

While Wainewright believes the technology is ideal for companies of all sizes, small businesses may benefit the most from cloud computing. According to a recent ClarionLedger report, the cloud has transformed the way people are able to access information.

Gerard Gibert, CEO of a technology solutions company, told ClarionLedger that a smartphone application is one of the best examples of the cloud's impact on technology.
