The use of cloud computing continues to expand on a global scale and industry experts recently participated at the ninth International Cloud Expo in Santa Clara, California, to reveal some of the technology's trends expected to take place in the future, eWeek reported.

According to eWeek's Chris Preimesberger, the cloud event revealed that partnerships regarding the technology will help establish industry standards. Organizations are also expected to continue testing and developing the cloud before actual deployment.

Preimesberger reported public cloud strategies, such as email hosting, are the most popular approach. Also, trial software and other temporary applications are not as likely to be stored in a cloud computing infrastructure.

"Applications that will be used permanently within an enterprise are the most likely to be used in a new cloud deployment, including email and collaboration tools, human resource tools and information, file storage, social networks, marketing and internal customer information," wrote Preimesberger.

InfoWorld's David Linthicum also believes there are several industry trends associated with cloud computing that will take place in the near future. Linthicum wrote that organizations will focus their attention to how cloud computing services fits within their businesses and not on the type of technology.
