Many industry experts continue to assert that the impact of cloud computing will continue in 2012 and InformationWeek's Judith Hurwitz recently highlighted several developments expected to take place.

The writer suggested that more companies with restricted IT budgets and timetables are turning to the cloud for its potential.

"It is becoming apparent that companies will not adopt a single cloud deployment model, but rather will use a combination of various public cloud services - including Software-as-a-Service, Infrastructure-as-a-Service, and Platform-as-a-Service - private cloud services as well as their traditional computing environment," wrote Hurwitz.

In 2012, other trends will emerge including the advancement of cloud computing security that will evolve to include provisions such as privacy, governance and compliance. According to the news provider, service level agreements will transition from focusing on the vendors to offering more assurances for the customer.

2012 is expected to be a key year for cloud computing solutions as the services continue to mature. According to a list released by research firm Gartner, the cloud is one of 10 strategic technologies that will have a positive impact in the IT industry beginning this year, offering growth potential for most industries using their applications.
