A recent study of IT industry leaders conducted by a solutions vendor revealed the expanded adoption of cloud computing will continue into 2012 for a variety of reasons.

"Based on insights gathered from IT industry thought leaders, analysts and enterprise customers … the increased adoption of cloud computing will shift how companies are implementing solutions, and cloud integration will become a way to boost efficiency and get closer to customers," the report stated.

The research indicated that total cost of ownership will be the primary driver behind the adoption of cloud computing services. Also, the evolution of security standards surrounding the technology will be a deciding factor as more enterprises utilize the cloud to manage sensitive data.

In 2012, many medium-sized and large businesses will be faced with IT system upgrades, which will also fuel the adoption of cloud computing, according to the study.

IT consulting expert Daniel Wang recently praised the cost effectiveness of cloud computing and expects the technology to be advantageous for businesses, adding that companies hesitant to adopt the cloud can implement its services in stages to reduce their IT expenses.
