Cloud computing enjoys growing recognition

A growing number of businesses are getting used to the concept of
cloud computing. The number of surveyed companies that consider it an enabler has grown from 37 to 60 percent since last year, according to Boston market research firm Yankee Group.
Cloud computing is on the cusp of broad enterprise adoption, believes the Yankee Group.
The firm has reported that more than 50 percent of U.S. businesses consider cloud computing a viable technology. This represents a 50 percent increase since last year.
In Yankee Group's recently published report, the group reveals that companies in general remain wary of Amazon and Google as
cloud partners. Only 17 percent reported that they consider these companies to be trusted partners. More preferred private cloud companies include IBM, Hewlett-Packard, Cisco and VMware.
At Mass High Techs Health IT and the Cloud forum held in June, similar sentiments were expressed among speakers and attendees. "When it comes to storing patient data at a service provider's site, it will take time for people to feel comfortable with having their personal data out there", Robert Buchanan Jr., chief information officer at Anna Jacques Hospital in Newburyport, Massachusetts said, regarding cloud computing within the health sector.
