Cloud computing changing how small businesses operate

A recent ClarionLedger report highlighted the immense benefits cloud computing offers small businesses and how the technology has transformed the way people access information.

"A smartphone app is probably the best example of cloud architecture," CEO of a technology solutions provider Gerard Gibert told the news provider. "When you launch those apps, there are some components on your phone. But all the brains and data itself is stored somewhere on the cloud."

Other small businesses are experiencing the benefits associated with the cloud. Business adviser Carter Smith told ClarionLedger that cloud computing helps small businesses work and compete in areas they were previously unable to perform. Benefits only available to large companies are now accessible to smaller companies with the adoption of the cloud, added Smith.

The IT nonprofit CompTIA released a study in July which also presented a positive outlook for cloud computing among small businesses. Of those organizations surveyed, 70 percent said they plan to increase their technology spending in the next year, while 35 percent indicated they expect to adopt cloud computing services in the next 12 months.
