Cloud computing changes more than just business operations

The emergence of
cloud computing has already had an impact on the way many companies conduct their business, but a new report found many also believe the technology will significantly affect relationships with partner companies.
The report, published by nonprofit trade association CompTIA, surveyed 400 IT firms in the United States. According to the report, approximately 40 percent of survey respondents believe cloud-based business models will profoundly change the way they develop and structure their channel partner programs.
Additionally, 56 percent of cloud vendors reported they believe the cloud will have an impact on classroom-based technical training. As it becomes more apparent the technology is here to stay, IT professionals will need to develop new skills to handle the cloud and address any concerns it may present in the workplace.
"Clearly, this coming year and beyond will be a period of change and adjustment as cloud computing, increasing specialization and the emergence from the recession impacts both vendor and solution provider business models," said CompTIA director of industry analysis Carolyn April.
Many have speculated that the emergence of the cloud will eventually negate the importance of the IT professional. While the cloud does help businesses make their IT solutions more efficient, many experts believe it will merely change the role of the IT professional, not displace it.
