Cloud computing can help companies strategize

According to a recent report by industry news source CIO, companies can utilize cloud computing not only for its storage benefits, but also to be more strategic in a competitive marketplace.

Chief technology officer of Amazon Web Services Werner Vogels told the news provider that, although the company has experienced certain issues with its cloud environment, it has not lost its innovation from years ago.

“It was clear that as we were becoming more mature we needed to provide services next to [APIs] in the form of user interfaces, support, training and so on," said Vogels. "It goes beyond just serving the technology and I think we’ve reached a point where we have nurtured the ecosystem so that we can help businesses grow and help their customers."

As more companies store data in the cloud, the market is expected to increase and, as a result, affect worldwide IT spending. According to Gartner, global IT spending is expected to increase by 7.1 percent this year, reaching nearly $3.7 trillion by the end of 2011 with the public cloud accounting for $89 billion.
