The number of areas within an IT infrastructure CIOs are expected to manage is growing larger with each passing moment. According to a recent Forbes report, consumerization of IT, mobility, virtualization,
cloud computing and Software-as-a-Service are the technologies many CIOs must utilize simultaneously.
According to the report, many CIOs are not ready to handle the expanded technology governance duties. Although it is possible to meet these challenges, it will take some due diligence and top-to-bottom rethinking of how IT is managed.
CIOs who are able to operate at level 2, or as leaders who use technology in a new fashion, are set to get the most out of their investments, opposed to those use the technology as it is intended, or level 1.
While many IT officials may be dealing with an increased amount of technologies to manage, one computing process is being used to decrease costs for many organizations. According to CDW's Cloud Computing Tracking Poll, 84 percent of 1,200 IT professionals said their companies have reduced their technology expenses by deploying the platform, reporting an average savings of 21 percent annually.
