APAC SMBs increasing cloud adoption

Though cloud computing has been slow to take off in the Asia-Pacific region, adoption is increasing among small- and medium-sized businesses. According to a recent AMI Research report, SMBs in the APAC region will invest $11.4 billion in cloud computing solutions this year.

According to the research firm's report, which excludes Japan, cloud growth will be strongest in the Korean, Chinese and Australian markets, driven by the IT budget savings and increased capabilities afforded by the technology.

As the economies and infrastructural conditions improve throughout APAC, the cloud market will grow at twice the rate of traditional information and communications technology, the report stated. Additionally, the increased proliferation of broadband internet and high-speed mobile networks will afford SMBs access to more cloud services.

"SMBs in the APAC region have clearly realized the strategic advantages of transitioning into the cloud," said AMI consulting director Stefan Haas.

Though Japan was excluded from AMI's research, the cloud market is also expected to see rapid growth in the country. According to an earlier report by IDC, the Japanese cloud services market will reach $1.8 billion by 2014.
